What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?

Many first-time patients are concerned that acupuncture needles will feel like hypodermic injections at the doctor’s office. They won't. Acupuncture uses hair-thin, flexible needles that you will hardly feel . They may produce a unique sensation described by most as a warming, traveling feeling. Most patients find these acupuncture sensations deeply satisfying and leave the treatment feeling relaxed both mentally and physically.

Preparation Tips for Your First Visit

Wear loose fitting clothes that can be easily rolled up above your elbows and knees. Also, you might need to expose your abdomen from your rib cage to the top of your hips, so avoid one piece suits or dresses.

For all acupuncture visits, be sure you have eaten at least a light meal within a few hours prior to arriving. Avoid overeating immediately before treatment.

Please bring any information about your case you may have from your doctors, including lab tests, blood work, reports of x-rays or MRI’s, etc.

For best results, avoid strenuous activity immediately following a treatment.

Acupuncture treatment creates deep relaxation
in both mind and body.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The benefits of acupuncture are cumulative, so more then one treatment is necessary. For acute conditions you can expect to have 6-12 treatments, but you will usually begin to feel relief after just the first treatment. Chronic conditions may take longer to respond, depending on the type, severity, and duration of the condition. Preventative treatments and treatments for general well-being may also be scheduled on an as-needed basis.
